The Delta region also has tremendous human capital in the people who live there and hold strong hopes for the future. The Deltas human, natural, and cultural resources have the potential to contribute significantly to the regions future. Despite great progress in a wide range of economic and social areas, the Delta region, particularly the Delta communities of Arkansas, still often lag behind the rest of the country. Substandard housing, inadequate transportation systems, limited access to capital, low educational levels, and lack of adequate health care have hindered progress and caused hardship. While nationwide unemployment levels have fallen during my Administration, the Arkansas Delta communities still suffer from disproportionately high unemployment. Furthermore, in the Delta counties of Arkansas, only 55 percent of the adult population has a high school diploma.

ABSTRACT The growth of Internet marketing has encouraged marketing researchers to look at how traditional consumer behavior theories and models are applied in the Internet context. The current research was designed to examine how consumers apply the traditional risk-reduction strategies for Internet shopping. The findings of the research clearly identified consumers risk perception and risk-reduction strategies in the Internet, which can use to identify, develop and provide new effective strategies for the Internet to become a more successful marketing channel. Keywords: Perceived Risk, Internet Marketing, Risk Reduction Strategies The Internet already plays a major roll in all marketing areas. In response to the exponential growth of Internet shopping, understanding how traditional consumer theories are applied to the Internet is essential, especially the field where the concept of perceived risk is a major deterrent of consumer purchase decision making.

The Capital-Journal Applications are no longer being taken for one-room air conditioners being provided through Project Neighborhood Relief because the number of applicants exceeds the number of available air conditioners, city of Topeka spokesman David Bevens said Thursday. Bevens said the names of those who want an air conditioner will be put on a list and one-room, window air conditioners will be distributed to them on a first-come, first-serve basis if they become available. Fans will go to those who dont get an air conditioner, Bevens said. City officials and their partners with Lets Help - the American Red Cross, Older Citizens Information and the Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging - announced last week they would give away the fans and air conditioners to eligible applicants on days hot weather forced the activation of Project Neighborhood Relief. That project was activated Wednesday and again Thursday . Also on those days, Bevens said, six of the citys community centers were designated as “cooling” centers and opened to the public beyond their normal hours.

A periodical focusing on concrete, and the building and construction industries in general.
The most complete and authoritatie source of information on those who design, specify, place, repair and use concrete.
In the best of all worlds, a contractor who specializes in decorative concrete is very creative, possesses good knowledge of concrete, and has very good placing and finishing skills. But in the real world, one person rarely has all of these qualities. Sometimes people with creative talents in another medium get interested in concrete and start developing ideas. And, increasingly, concrete contractors are deciding to install decorative concrete because it increases what they can offer their customers. However it starts, the number of contractors involved in decorative concrete work is increasing rapidly. In recognition of this growing interest in creative decorative concrete, CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION and the Decorative Concrete Council (DCC), a council of the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC), sponsored the second Artistry in Decorative Concrete demonstrations at the 2004 World of Concrete. Focusing on creativity, the goal was to show visitors to the demos the endless possibilities of decorative concrete and to encourage them to be more creative in their own efforts. The old adage “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” was especially true for the Artistry in Decorative Concrete demos this year. Everyone who came to see the finished work had their favorites, and there was considerable difference of opinion. But since the focus of the demos was creative expression and not selecting one artist as “the winner,” this event achieved its purpose. The following reviews of each of the 12 invited artists, highlights just how diverse the offerings were. Several years ago, Ehrenzweis, a professional artist, started experimenting with chemical stains on concrete and marble tabletops. Using solvent acrylic sealer as a stain-resistant material, he used fine brushes to paint elaborate, detailed drawings. Then he applied stain, which colored the exposed areas of the concrete but not the sealed areas. As his experience with chemical stains grew, his drawings became more complex by repeating the process of drawing with stain-resistant sealers and staining with different colors. This is the technique he demonstrated at WOC–showing many visitors how he achieved his remarkable patterns.

Questions about healthy eating habits, specific diets and providing healthy nutrition for children dominated the Deseret Morning News/Intermountain Health Care Hotline Saturday. Registered dietitians Deon Gines and Tracy Herrmann, both of LDS Hospital, talked to callers about their diets and provided healthy suggestions for better eating habits. One caller was concerned that because of the foods she chose to eat, she was following a low-carb diet that was unhealthy. Gines told her what foods were high in carbohydrates and then suggested that she incorporate a variety of foods into her diet. “Its so nice to talk to somebody who actually wants to change their diet and help their family,” Gines said.

Ever wonder why were all so hung up on beauty–why its important to both men and women, no matter our race or place in the world, and why people across different cultures have similar ideals? “There are evolutionary roots to beauty,” explains psychologist Nancy Etcoff, a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and author of Survival of the Prettiest: The Science of Beauty. “Essentially, beauty is a biological advertisement of health.” In other words, people are attracted to visible signs of good health like clear skin, shiny hair and rosy cheeks because these were the clues our ancestors used to determine whether someone would make a good mate. These days, the natural signs of beauty are easily enhanced. The perfect-hued lipstick and blush, for example, impart a healthy glow, and the right moisturizers can keep your complexion soft. Improving on natures gifts is anything but vanity; Etcoff explains that beautifying yourself is simply another form of self-care. “More and more, people are viewing their health and their looks as being united. Its not simply putting on makeup or getting your hair done–its taking care of yourself and your body.” All the more reason to care for your skins specific needs, When you find a makeup look thats just right for your age, attitude and complexion, the beauty/health connection is confirmed. Here, three experts–makeup artists Sue Devitt, Bobbi Brown and Carol Shaw–offer advice on creating a look thats right for you. Though its impossible to hold back the clock forever, the common beauty goal for women in their late 20s: and early 30s is stalling time for another few years–and with the right makeup, enhancing the glow that already exists, explains Sue Devitt. Business Editors/High-Tech Writers InfoTrends Research Groups latest forecast of consumer digital cameras in North America shows that unit sales of digital cameras will have nearly replaced sales of reloadable film cameras, not including single-use cameras, by 2008. Most consumers will purchase digital cameras rather than reloadable film cameras in 2008, because consumer photographic services will center on the digital camera customer, and consumers image capture needs will be met by digital cameras. Additionally, within the five-year forecast, digital camera vendors are expected to deliver sub-$1,000 amateur digital SLRs that support interchangeable lenses, which will also cut into film camera sales. While single-use film cameras will remain popular, single-use digital cameras will be entering the market as well. “The consumer digital camera market has made steady progress since the first models were introduced in the mid-90s, but the consumer photographic industry is just beginning to feel the impact of the transition to digital,” said Michelle Slaughter, director of InfoTrends Digital Photography Trends service. “The shift to digital photography will be nearly complete by 2008 due to advancing consumer adoption of a wide range of consumer digital imaging solutions, including home photo printing, retail digital photofinishing services, online photo services, TV-based imaging products and services, and wireless imaging.” Digital camera unit sales are forecast to reach 14.3 million units in 2003. Three-megapixel models are expected to capture nearly 50% of unit sales, as they become the new entry-level resolution for consumer digital cameras due to low starting price points and a broad product selection.

Daily general business and legal newspaper focuses on Oklahoma City business trends with in-depth stories about the business community.
Dr. Rodney P. Steffen had been a dentist for four years in the U.S. Air Force when he opened a private dental practice in 1987 in Oklahoma City. He had a practice by himself until Dr. Kathy DeHart joined the practice in 1990. Steffen knew it made economic sense for more than one dentist to be operating out of one building. “Two dentists can work in a building and pay the same rent as one dentist,” he said. So Steffen put that knowledge to use in his practice. That one-dentist practice Steffen started 1987 has now expanded Community Dental Health Centers to three locations and 12 dentists, with a fourth location scheduled to open in mid-August in Moore.

This Global Guide to Top-Notch Doctors Spotlights the Denver, Colorado Based Surgeon Specializing in VASER Hi Def Liposculpture Raving from the Tatler states, “Hes perfected an amazing technique where he can use your own fat to reshape your body. Now with his futuristic- sounding VASER LipoSelection, which was developed with Colombian cosmetic surgeon Dr. Alfredo Hoyos, Millard can reshape the body to near-super model status. Its based on the concept of superficial liposuction, which means he works close to the surface of the skin to artfully sculpt the torso rather than simply sucking out excess fat. It works equally well for women and men, and makes six-pack abs or a cinched waist a dream come true.” The VASER equipment used in Hi Def Liposculpture uses ultrasound technology to emulsify fat, which is then removed through a long, small needle in a more exact fashion, tracing the natural musculature. This procedure is spreading across the country, as more and more cosmetic surgeons incorporate it into their practice and gain training from Dr. Millard and Sound Surgical, the makers of VASER Hi Def.

According to executives planning to visit trade shows, visiting exhibits prove the fastest, easiest and best way to stay current in business. The survey identifies that more than 78 percent felt trade shows are of increasing value and that the ability to spend time with nonsales personnel and technical support people as well as the opportunity to have hands-on demo time were perceived to be the advantage and value of shows. While 78 percent cited trade shows as having more value, 16 percent felt that they had the same value as in previous years, and only 6 percent indicated that the shows were of less value than in previous years. With trade shows attracting prospects and buyers eager to visit exhibits, what can a company do in 1996 to maximize the effectiveness of its booth? Our research sought the answer to that question. The tips and ideas were provided by more than 300 buyers and executives. The key is to offer less hype and more comfort, the survey reveals. In 1996 exhibitors should take a tip from retailers. Bookstores now serve coffee to provide a relaxed environment. Retailers now have greeters rather than guards at the entrance. And service is promoted more than price. Such marketing techniques provide more sales and profits for retailers, and according to our research, comfort, less pressure and help vs. hype is what attendees want at trade shows.Responsiveness, politeness and professionalism of the representative in the booth were of key importance in determining the amount of time that visitors spend with an exhibitor. The buyers point out that the crowds, clutter and confusion that are sometimes part of the exhibit floor leave them with a strong desire to find exhibits with low-pressure, friendly booth personnel. Approximately 56 percent of the impression an exhibit creates is from the attitude and behavior of the sales staff.

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Beautiful Forever, a New York-based medical spa business development company, announced today that its newest project, the medical spa at Miamis Four Season Hotel Towers, exceeded its first month projections - demonstrating that consumers are embracing medical spas with increased enthusiasm. Beautiful Forever helped launch The MIAMI Institute for Age Management Intervention, an advanced surgery center and medical spa dedicated to enhancing personal appearance, health and well being, last month. Julio F. Gallo, M.D., FACS, co-founder, The MIAMI Institute for Age Management Intervention, says, “We are heartened by the outpouring of interest in our new medical spa. Beautiful Forevers research and business development counseling was pivotal to our launch, and no doubt to the huge success we are already experiencing after just opening our doors last month.” Adds Dr. Gallo, “Cheryl has an amazing ability to combine business knowledge, marketing expertise and operational know-how with other aspects of medical and aesthetic treatments. She seems to know what will be hot before it is. She has been an invaluable asset in setting up the aesthetic treatments and office structure of our new comprehensive medical spa and cosmetic surgery center.” Cheryl Whitman, CEO, Beautiful Forever, says, “The medical spa business is an exciting trend, quickly gaining traction across the country. Consumers want more than they can get at the traditional day spa. They want a one-stop beauty destination where they can receive pampering as well as some on trend cosmetic and aesthetic procedures.” Adds Whitman, “Todays increasingly competitive work environment, coupled with the high concentration of baby boomers all vying for the same jobs, makes looking good and feeling good as important as the daily ritual of brushing our teeth. The medical spa business is growing in direct proportion to the needs of the discerning consumer.”

PARK CITY — Since the MLS Reserve Division was created four years ago, teams throughout the league have adopted differing approaches to the reserve games. Real Salt Lake assistant coach Brian Johnson said theres a fine line between trying to develop players and winning reserve games. With that said, Johnson said RSLs approach is pretty simple. The new coaching staff is trying to create a culture of winning throughout the organization. “We want to win every game. Jason (Kreis) always says were in the business of winning regardless of the game,” said Johnson. That attitude is why Real Salt Lakes reserves held nothing back against the shorthanded Galaxy reserves Sunday afternoon in Park City. Against a Galaxy team with four fill-in players from Southern California, RSL took it to L.A. from the opening whistle rolling to the 5-2 victory. “We kind of knew the situation they were in with their lack of players,” said Johnson. “They actually called in a ton of players and still didnt have any subs, so we knew it was important for us to really go at them.”

ATLANTA — Peach State Credit Solutions is pleased to announce the “Fresh Start”
program designed to award free credit repair to one individual per month.
It is no secret that some have become over-extended while others are
still paying for credit mistakes made long ago. These factors, as well
as others, lead to a lower credit score. Often times an individual’s
credit score is not an accurate picture of their current situation. The
simple service that Peach State Credit provides can give most people
with bad credit a second chance.
All Peach State Credit Solutions customers will be automatically
considered to win. The winning candidate will receive a full refund on
the credit restoration service, a value of $695.00. Winners will be
chosen on the last Friday of every month starting March 27, 2009.
“It is our ethical responsibility to do what we can do have a positive
impact on the community. By helping to restore the credit rating of one
individual per month for free, we can be part of the solution. Fresh
Start can improve the standard of living for a very deserving
individual,” says William Mikula, Manager of Peach State.
