The Capital-Journal Applications are no longer being taken for one-room air conditioners being provided through Project Neighborhood Relief because the number of applicants exceeds the number of available air conditioners, city of Topeka spokesman David Bevens said Thursday. Bevens said the names of those who want an air conditioner will be put on a list and one-room, window air conditioners will be distributed to them on a first-come, first-serve basis if they become available. Fans will go to those who dont get an air conditioner, Bevens said. City officials and their partners with Lets Help - the American Red Cross, Older Citizens Information and the Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging - announced last week they would give away the fans and air conditioners to eligible applicants on days hot weather forced the activation of Project Neighborhood Relief. That project was activated Wednesday and again Thursday . Also on those days, Bevens said, six of the citys community centers were designated as “cooling” centers and opened to the public beyond their normal hours.
Of 20 brands surveyed, only Gree Air-conditioner enjoyed an attention rate of over 50%. Nine out of the most focused 13 air-conditioner brands are made in China, with accumulated attention rate of 86%. Users paid more attention to hanging air-conditioner (65.82%) than vertical air-conditioner (34.18%). Users paid most attention to 2P air-conditioner (31.02%), then to 1P air-conditioner (30.57%), and then to 1.5P air-conditioner (27.71%). The three kinds of power air-conditioners are very welcomed among consumers, and the accumulated attention rate of the three was up to 89.30%. Users prefer RMB 4, 000 below hanging air-conditioners, with a proportion of 71.8%; air-conditioner priced at above RMB 4, 000 had an attention rate of 28.2%. In addition, the luxurious high-end air-conditioner priced at over RMB 10,000 had an attention rate of merely 0.5%.

Several years ago, Ehrenzweis, a professional artist, started experimenting with chemical stains on concrete and marble tabletops. Using solvent acrylic sealer as a stain-resistant material, he used fine brushes to paint elaborate, detailed drawings. Then he applied stain, which colored the exposed areas of the concrete but not the sealed areas. As his experience with chemical stains grew, his drawings became more complex by repeating the process of drawing with stain-resistant sealers and staining with different colors. This is the technique he demonstrated at WOC–showing many visitors how he achieved his remarkable patterns.

Tour attendees will also receive a one-day pass to visit Mynelle Gardens, a public garden owned by the city of Jackson. All proceeds from the event will be used to help restore Mynelle Gardens to its former beauty before the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina.

Dr. Rodney P. Steffen had been a dentist for four years in the U.S. Air Force when he opened a private dental practice in 1987 in Oklahoma City. He had a practice by himself until Dr. Kathy DeHart joined the practice in 1990. Steffen knew it made economic sense for more than one dentist to be operating out of one building. “Two dentists can work in a building and pay the same rent as one dentist,” he said. So Steffen put that knowledge to use in his practice. That one-dentist practice Steffen started 1987 has now expanded Community Dental Health Centers to three locations and 12 dentists, with a fourth location scheduled to open in mid-August in Moore.

According to executives planning to visit trade shows, visiting exhibits prove the fastest, easiest and best way to stay current in business. The survey identifies that more than 78 percent felt trade shows are of increasing value and that the ability to spend time with nonsales personnel and technical support people as well as the opportunity to have hands-on demo time were perceived to be the advantage and value of shows. While 78 percent cited trade shows as having more value, 16 percent felt that they had the same value as in previous years, and only 6 percent indicated that the shows were of less value than in previous years.With trade shows attracting prospects and buyers eager to visit exhibits, what can a company do in 1996 to maximize the effectiveness of its booth?Our research sought the answer to that question. The tips and ideas were provided by more than 300 buyers and executives. The key is to offer less hype and more comfort, the survey reveals. In 1996 exhibitors should take a tip from retailers. Bookstores now serve coffee to provide a relaxed environment. Retailers now have greeters rather than guards at the entrance. And service is promoted more than price. Such marketing techniques provide more sales and profits for retailers, and according to our research, comfort, less pressure and help vs. hype is what attendees want at trade shows.Responsiveness, politeness and professionalism of the representative in the booth were of key importance in determining the amount of time that visitors spend with an exhibitor. PARK CITY — Since the MLS Reserve Division was created four years ago, teams throughout the league have adopted differing approaches to the reserve games. Real Salt Lake assistant coach Brian Johnson said theres a fine line between trying to develop players and winning reserve games. With that said, Johnson said RSLs approach is pretty simple. The new coaching staff is trying to create a culture of winning throughout the organization. “We want to win every game. Jason (Kreis) always says were in the business of winning regardless of the game,” said Johnson. That attitude is why Real Salt Lakes reserves held nothing back against the shorthanded Galaxy reserves Sunday afternoon in Park City. Against a Galaxy team with four fill-in players from Southern California, RSL took it to L.A. from the opening whistle rolling to the 5-2 victory. “We kind of knew the situation they were in with their lack of players,” said Johnson. “They actually called in a ton of players and still didnt have any subs, so we knew it was important for us to really go at them.”
